INTRODUCTION
The EN 1317 European standard was developed within the framework of the Construction Products Directive 89/106/EEC and it stipulates the conditions under which a certain Road Restrain System (RRS) is allowed on EU market.
The EU-Norm for RRS, EN 1317 is a performance-norm, not related to material, shape or dimensions of the systems.
The EN 1317 consists of 5 parts:
EN 1317-1: Terminology and general criteria for test methods.
EN 1317-2: Performance classes, impact test acceptance criteria and test methods for safety barriers.
EN 1317-3: Performance classes, impact test acceptance criteria and test methods for crash cushions.
EN 1317-4: Performance classes, impact test acceptance criteria and test methods for terminals and transitions of safety barrier.
EN 1317-5 standard (Product requirements, durability and evaluation of conformity) serves as a basis for the CE marking of road safety systems such as safety barriers and guardrails, crash cushions, barrier extremities and transitions.
PERFORMANCE CRITERIA DESCRIPTION
According to the EN 1317 the performance safety level of a Road Safety System is evaluated upon three main criteria:
- Containment Level
- Impact Severity Index
- Working Width of the system
According to these criteria the performance of Fracasso Hellas road safety systems are verified by full scale crash tests carried out in certified European laboratories.
